Mrs. Bleakley received her B.S. in Interdisciplinary Studies from West Texas A&M. She taught special education as a resource teacher in Amarillo TX. Dorothy was one of three teachers in the district receiving training as a dyslexic specialist. She has home-schooled her own children for 11 years now and has been teaching at LCA since 2011.
Mr. Jabbour is no stranger to the education system in Garfield County. He received his B.A. in Technical Journalism, Social Studies Minor from Colorado State University and his M.A. in Journalism from UCLA. He became a Photo Journalist at the Los Angeles Free Press. He served as a USAF Information Officer at McConnell Air Force Base.
After receiving his teaching certificate, Language Arts from Western State College, he began his career in education. From 1975-2005 he taught Language Arts with the Re2 school district in Rifle and New Castle, CO. He received the honor of Riverside Middle School Teacher of the Year in 2004.
He has remained true to his original degree in journalism by working as a Sports Writer from 1975-2004 with the Glenwood Post and Rifle Tribune. He was runner up for the Colorado Associated Press sports story of the year in 1994.
He has worked for KMTS Radio as the High School Sports Broadcaster from 2000 - present. During this time, he has receive nine 1st place awards in sports with the Associated Press Broadcast Division and three 1st place awards for sports with the Colorado Broadcasting Association.
He began working at LCA in 2005 as a Humanities Instructor. He also taught as the Humanities Instructor at Cornerstone Classical from 2012-2013.
Denise Piker teaches Latin to the fourth graders through our logic class. Originally from Texas, she has lived in Silt and New Castle for 26 years, and has been a part of the school since its inception. Denise is passionate about music, words and Latin and how good they are for the brain. She also loves being with children so considers her job the best! She graduated with a degree in English and a minor in French and worked for a year on a Masters in English before marriage and the Lord sent her elsewhere. Her husband of 35 years is Pastor of New Hope Church in New Castle. They have two grown sons who graduated from Liberty Classical Academy (The Garden School) and two grandchildren, one of whom is an LCA student!
Jeannette Thompson has a heart for service. Her background includes serving on Rifle's Planning and Zoning Board, four years as a Rifle City Council member, serving on the Liberty Classical Academy Board, as well as being a MOPS Coordinator, volunteering in her church's nursery and a Sunday School teacher. She has lived in Rifle for the past 24 years and in that time has worked as an auto claims representative, substitute teacher for grades K-12, taught preschool for two years, taught Trigonometry for LCA one year, has run a home daycare for the past 10 years, and currently works part-time as the Office Manager for the Methodist Church in Rifle. In college, Jeanette majored in German, studied French for three years, and Spanish for two. She loves learning languages and is looking forward to teaching First Year Latin.
Mr. Gelpi studied jazz piano performance and music business at Loyola University in New Orleans. He is a professional musician in the Roaring Fork Valley, Colorado and operates his own private music studio. Mr. Gelpi has 25 piano students in addition to being Music Director at The Garden School in New Castle, Cornerstone Classical School in Basalt, and St. Mary's of the Crown Catholic Church in Carbondale.
